Temperatures are rising as well as cooling across the globe, leading researchers to warn that global warming is not uniform.
Scientists have taken the first detailed look at global land surface warming trends over the last 100 years - shedding light on what types of warming we might see in the future, writes Science World Report.
The findings are published in the journal Nature Climate Change.

The research will also provide a greater context to global warming research overall.
While previous studies have failed to provide evidence of non-uniform warming due to method limitations - the new research was carried out using new analysis methods.
Researchers used a newly developed analysis method to examine land surface temperature trends dating from 1900 until now.
Researchers looked at information from every continent, excepting Antarctica.
They found noticeable warming began around the regions circling the Arctic as well as the subtropical regions in both hemispheres.
The largest accumulated warming to date have occurred in the Earth's northern temperate zones between the tropics and the Arctic and Antarctic polar regions.
In addition, some areas of the world experienced cooling.
"The global warming is not uniform," said Eric Chassignet, one of the researchers, said in a statement.
"You have areas that have cooled and areas that have warmed."
While most to the global warmed up from about 1910 to 1980, there were some regions south of the equator that actually cooled down and then had no change at all until the mid-1990s, according to Science World Report.
Other areas near and south of the equator didn't see significant changes when compared to the rest of the world.
The new findings reveal more about how climate change has already impacted locations across the globe.
Temperature fluctuations provide a greater context to global climate change will allow researchers to develop understanding about the future impacts of climate change.
