Jennifer Beals is no stranger to the small screen. The "Flashdance" actress starred on Showtime's "The L Word" as Bette Porter. She was on that show for six seasons before the series ended its run on the network. In recent years, Fox tried to bring the actress back to television with "The Chicago Code." That series never caught on, and it was canceled quickly.
TNT is hoping to have "Proof" catch on though. On this series, Beal will play Dr. Kathryn Russo. She is described as "a surgeon who is persuaded to investigate strange phenomena, which point towards the the possible existence of an afterlife." This supernatural drama brought Beals to upfronts this week, and she is definitely not showing her age at all. It was 30 years ago that audiences first saw Beals dancing on movie screens. She has aged since then, but she is still looking very good for her age. Some might say she looks 20 years younger than 50.
Since then, Beals has kept busy with work in Hollywood. She has just signed on for a new film role this week in fact. According to The Hollywood Reporter, she has joined "The Rocking Horsemen." The film was written by Matthew Modine, and she also works with the actor in "Proof." On the big screen, she has been seen in "The Grudge 2" and "The Book of Eli" with Denzel Washington.
However, Beals has not taken every project that has come her way. The actress has been asked by "Dancing With The Stars" to come on for a season. She has turned down the request. Her first role might have been in a film that showcased dancing, but she is not looking to hit the ballroom dance floor. Beals said the following about the decision: "I am not a dancer. They asked me and I said 'no'. You could back up a truck to my door filled with cash and I wouldn't do it."
A preview for the series shared by Slash Film on May 16 gives fans a look at the journey Beals' character will take on for the series. She will be hired by Modine's character to find proof of life after death. Her character had her own near-death experience, and that is why the man wants her. He wants to know what will happen to him after he dies, and he has the money to fund such a project. This series does not yet have a premiere date set yet, but it will premiere on TNT later this year.
